PURPOSE:
To provide an easy to use practical tool that parents, teachers, counselors, and therapists can use to (1) help children with attachment, control, self-esteem, anger, maturity, attitude and values problems and (2) reduce the likelihood of children developing these problems.

METHOD:
Dr. Katz has written over 180 crucial life lessons that he believes children and adults need to understand, internalize and apply in order to be emotionally healthy, happy and productive. These crucial lessons involve attachments (family and relationships), control, identity, anger, maturity, attitude and values.
Dr. Katz has written these ideals under twelve beautiful motivational drawings by Clarissa Johnson, an 83 year old, nationally renowned artist, who did not start her career until she was 65 years old - because the sudden death of her husband, when she was 26 years old, forced her to work 16 hours per day, 6 days a week to support her family of 6 children.
Each of her drawings teaches important emotional and social lessons that visually reinforce the lessons written under them.

HOW TO USE:
For infants and toddlers Dr. Katz recommends that parents read the lessons as they show the children the pictures while rocking them, starting from the day the baby comes home from the hospital and that this occur every day. In addition to the increased emotional health produced by the rocking and reading, the daily repetition of the words and pictures will result in children learning the ideas and lessons by the time they are three or four years old, just as they learn nursery rhymes and children's songs at this age.
For older children it is recommended that parents and children read the lessons to each other while looking at the drawings, then discuss the lessons in the drawings and in the words, especially emphasizing how the family can apply the lessons to improve itself. Dr. Katz strongly recommends that parents be role models by applying the lessons in everyday life, discussing with the children how they are applying the lessons and how doing so is helping the family.

BENEFITS:
Any child, adolescent, or adult who learns and applies the lessons in the drawings and writing will have a much greater chance of being emotionally healthy and being able to resist the temptations of behaviorally and emotionally disturbed peers than people who have not learned them.
"Helping Children" provides training to parents, teachers & counselors in the extreme importance of working on the seven underlying emotional problems and provides an effective practical instrument to work on these problems. It will be very useful in individual and group counseling and therapy sessions, in school at risk, conflict resolution, and student assistant programs, in parenting classes, and as a guide for both new and experienced parents. The world class art will provide much pleasure and motivation for most people now and through out their life.
